Abstract

The rise of digital business models, social media platforms, and intensified use of cyberspace during the COVID-19 pandemic have inevitably seen respective and associated cyber and cyber-enabled crimes. There has also been fluctuations in other forms of crimes during the pandemic. This chapters provides a critical overview of crime during natural disasters and pandemics. The paper outlines a comprehensive background on pandemics, natural disasters, and crime and attempts to critically review the existing literature on the correlation between these concepts. It then adopts a case study approach to assess the correlation between pandemics and crime using secondary data sources.
